Dealing with Stress
Stress. It’s a beast!
Stress causes so much havoc on the body and is unfortunately not completely unavoidable.
High levels of stress have been linked to high cholesterol, weight gain, adrenal fatigue, anxiety, and numerous other symptoms. Stressful situations activate the fight or flight response. The hormone responsible for initiating this response is cortisol. Something stressful happens, we freak out, and cortisol starts firing off preparing us for what’s next. Which is great if you’re running from a dinosaur.
Nowadays our dinosaurs look more like bills, difficult decisions, family matters and upsetting news from all over the world. To name a few! Some of these things can’t be helped but we can change the way that we deal with the stress that comes our way. It’s when the release of cortisol is frequent that it becomes unhealthy. Too much cortisol can have a very negative effect on the body and it just doesn’t feel good to be stressed out. Here are some small steps you can take to help increase those relaxation vibes on a daily basis.
Deep breathing 5 to 10 minutes a day
Spend some time outside
Move your body (dance, exercise, whatever you’re craving)
