Quality over Quantity

I’m just over here washing fruits and veggies to have ready for snacking. Contrary to what a lot of us think is true, it’s not about how much we eat but it’s really about what we eat!

Whole nutritious foods like fruits, veggies, protein, and whole grains keep our gut and our body happy. They are better for your digestion and in turn your skin and hair and overall health. It’s difficult for the gut to recognize artificial or processed ingredients and after time they wear down our gut lining and cause damage to the gut microbiota. This can cause IBS, leaky gut, food sensitivities, malnutrition, obesity, and a whole host of other symptoms.

Point being, the more clean foods we eat the better. The best way is to take small attainable steps to weed out the foods in your life that you can do without. In the health coaching world we use a term called “crowding out”. It basically means slowly replacing processed foods with the more natural version. Not all at once because that never ends well but making a gradual lifestyle change that you can sustain. One of the easiest ways to do this is to up your fruit and veggie game. Add in one serving a day, then 2 and keep it going.

I find the easiest way to prepare some fruits and vegetables for snacking or to add to meals ahead of time so it really doesn’t require much though when I’m hungry.  I’ll often have a couple salads ready to go and some roasted vegetables as well as fruit that is washed and cut and ready to go.

Happy eating friends!
